Medjugorje Has Been Vandalized: Two acts of vandalism have targeted the Marian shrine at Medjugorje. According to local authorities, the outdoor altar at St James's Church was set on fire. Furthermore, graffiti was found on a statue of Our Lady at Podbrdo, including the words 'Devil in a skirt'. The first report concerning the statue was received by the police at 4:30 a.m., followed by a second report at 5:00 a.m. after the altar was set alight. The fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread to the church. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage of the suspected arsonist.

That under Pope Francis "certain difficulties and troubles became evident" is "undeniable." So said Archbishop Georg Gänswein, who turns 70 on Thursday, in an interview published by Katholisch.de on July 27. Monsignor Gänswein believes Leo XIV recognizes these problems and is addressing them. In Germany, the chief concern of Monsignor Gänswein remains the "Synodal Way": "The tensions surrounding the Synodal Way and various initiatives that break away from the Catholic faith continue to exist and await a final resolution. For many Catholics in Germany who simply want to live their faith, this is a millstone around their neck." Contradicting his own criticism, however, Archbishop Gänswein said he has "a good impression" of the new president of the German bishops' conference, Bishop Heiner Wilmer of Münster. Pilgrims Celebrate Outdoor Dawn Mass Instead of Basilica Liturgy at Covadonga: At dawn today, pilgrims of the sixth Our Lady of Christendom Pilgrimage in Spain celebrated a traditional outdoor Mass at their campsite in Sevares, Asturias. The Mass was not allowed in the Basilica of Covadonga. After Mass, the pilgrims continued on foot to Covadonga, where they concluded with prayer and the singing of the Te Deum before the Blessed Sacrament. The three-day pilgrimage, held from 25–27 July, covered nearly 100 kilometers from Oviedo to Covadonga and drew more than 1,700 participants.

Around 500 nude volunteers gathered outside the Cathedral of Santa Ana in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, on Sunday for a photographic installation by American artist Spencer Tunick as part of the Culture & Business Pride festival.
