Why You Won’t Be Able To Afford Food By Winter
$40 for a fruit tray and $7 for a single can of vegetables isn’t just "inflation" it’s a warning sign of a system in total collapse. Across the globe, families are being forced to put basic survival needs on credit cards and payday loans just to keep a meal on the table. A global crop failure is colliding with a 1930s-style Dust Bowl repeat standing on the precipice of massive civil unrest and history shows us exactly what happens when the masses go hungry.

Irish Church Shrinks: Leo XIV De Facto Merges Two Dioceses

Today, Leo XIV appointed Bishop Gerard Nash, 67, as Bishop of Ossory while he remains also Bishop of Ferns. The pope united two neighboring Irish dioceses in persona episcopi.
Under this arrangement, both dioceses retain for now their separate legal identities but are entrusted to the same bishop.
Bishop Nash has led the Diocese of Ferns since 2021 and has served as Apostolic Administrator of Ossory since January 2026. Together, the two dioceses serve less than 200,000 Catholics.
The appointment marks another step in the ongoing restructuring of the shrinking Church in Ireland. The policy of diocesan consolidation is clearly expanding beyond western Ireland
While three previous in persona episcopi unions took place within the Ecclesiastical Province of Tuam in western Ireland, the union of Ferns and Ossory is the first outside that province.

“Homosexual Acts Are Particularly Detestable in God’s Sight”: Cardinal Joseph Zen, 94, of Hong Kong wrote on his blog on July 27 about the evil forces that tempt us, including the inclinations of the flesh. “Of course, ethics and morality aren't just about the Sixth and Ninth Commandments, but sins of this kind are the easiest to become addicted to. Especially those LGBTQ sins - they utterly violate the Creator's plan for humanity.” Cardinal Zen added that homosexual acts are “not only called sin in the Bible but are an Abomination (particularly detestable) in God's sight.” He also writes: “The merciful God also rained down fire to destroy Sodom.”

Cardinal Zen: ‘Protection’ of the family a ‘primary mission’ for Church today

Joseph Cardinal Zen has urged Catholics to make protecting the family a “primary mission” in pastoral work, in order to fight back against a society that has lost an understanding of the “meaning of life”. In an essay published today on his blog, Cdl. Zen offered a commentary both on scripture and on the state of the Church in the world today. Such is his regular style, linking the sacred texts to a specific message, and this latest was no exception as he dwelled on the parable of the pearl of great price.

German Archbishop: Homosexual March Is "Joyful and Moving Celebration"

Berlin’s homosex march 'Christopher Street Day' is a “joyful and moving celebration.” That is what pro-homosexual Archbishop Heiner Koch of Berlin told KNA on Sunday. He spoke after an attack on the march on Saturday evening.
One woman was killed, and at least 31 others were injured, some of them seriously.
The attacker, Abdul B., 21, drove a car into the crowd and was later - conveniently for the justice system and politicians - shot dead during a police operation.
The full context of Archbishop Koch's statement is: "How terrible! To brutally destroy such a joyful and moving celebration. We keep all the victims, their families, friends, and everyone whose joy has been taken away by hatred in our prayers. Hatred must not prevail."
Abdul B. was born in Berlin in 2005 and grew up there. His parents are from Lebanon, and he held German citizenship. His family belongs to a large extended clan. He had been known to the security authorities for years and was considered part of the Islamist …بیشتر

(Coimmentary) The SSPX is the easy part

[wherepeteris.com] Written by Mike Lewis
One of the stranger developments surrounding the illicit Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) episcopal consecrations on July 1 was the sudden outbreak of agreement among Catholics across the spectrum that the Society had gone too far — they had committed a schismatic act and had incurred automatic excommunication from the Catholic Church. On the eve of the Écône ceremony, Pope Leo XIV warned the SSPX of the consequences of following through with their plans. On the day after the consecrations, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued the decree of excommunication and its explanatory note confirming that SSPX clergy are in schism. In the days and weeks since, diocesan bishops have warned the faithful not to attend SSPX liturgies and explained the illicit (and sometimes invalid) nature of their sacraments. Very few prominent figures outside the SSPX seem to have taken up their cause. The most conspicuous exceptions — Bishop Athanasius …بیشتر

Rev. Gerald Murray Questions Vatican's Rupnik Trial: The New York-based canon lawyer criticises the lack of transparency in the Vatican's canonical trial against Marko Rupnik. "Why don't we know who the judges are?" he asked talking to Raymond Arroyo on 25 July. Rev Murray also pointed out that "we don't know which charges" are being levelled against Rupnik. Finally, he argues that victims who provided evidence should have the right to participate in the process. "The whole thing is a horrific problem."

New Zealand to Build First New Cathedral in Over 120 Years: The Diocese of Christchurch has unveiled the design for the new Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, which will stand on the site of the original cathedral destroyed after the devastating Canterbury earthquakes (2010-2011). The new cathedral will preserve historic stained-glass windows. It's a roughly $80 million New Zealand dollar project (about US$46m). The diocese is currently in a fundraising phase. Partner is the architecture firm Warren and Mahoney. The style is "an ancient design, a Romanesque and Gothic hybrid model".

"I am city bacteriologist and chemist."
He was handed the chips from the pencil factory flooring.
"Did you test these chips?"

"Was it human blood?"
"I don't know."

Depressive Former Medjugorje Believer Arrested for Vandalizing the Shrine

A 31-year-old Polish man, identified by regional media as Bartłomiej Włodzimierz Krakowiak, has been arrested for vandalizing the Marian shrine of Medjugorje during the night of 27–28 July, just days before Mladifest, which is expected to attract around 50,000 young pilgrims.
"Medjugorje Is a Deception"
The suspect allegedly poured black paint over statues of the Virgin Mary on Apparition Hill and at the Blue Cross, wrote "Devil in a skirt" on one statue. He hung banners accusing the six visionaries of being "frauds - I have proof", spray-painted slogans including "Medjugorje is a deception," "Only Jesus," and "Mary = devil," and set fire to the recently renovated outdoor altar behind St. James Church.
He was arrested hours later in Černo, near Ljubuški, heading toward the Croatian border.
Former Pilgrim
The case is particularly striking because the suspect had previously visited Medjugorje as a pilgrim. Regional media report that in 2017 he walked 1,300 km from Warsaw to the shrine, …بیشتر

Washington Cardinal "Allows" Female Preaching - Report

Cardinal Robert McElroy of Washington D.C. authorised monthly lay "commentary" during the Eucharist at the Jesuit parish of Holy Trinity in Georgetown, according to BigModernism.Substack.com (July 28).
The blog published a letter dated 4 February 2026 and signed by Fr James Casciotti, SJ. The letter responds to concerns raised by a correspondent about the parish's liturgical practices.
Fr Casciotti addresses several issues, including chatting until just before the Eucharist.
The key passage states: "You should know that the Cardinal has given permission for lay commentary once a month at Holy Trinity [...]".
The letter does not identify the cardinal by name. In February 2026, Cardinal Robert McElroy was Archbishop of Washington, having been appointed in January 2025 and installed in March 2025.
Separately, the blog cites a firsthand account from a reader alleging that the practice involved a woman delivering what functioned as the homily during Mass under the name "commentary." According …بیشتر
