The statue depicts Leo XIV with his arms open and is being built around a steel structure with a marble-like exterior finish. The privately funded monument is expected to be installed ahead of the pope’s November visit to Peru. #newsMmvrjnktky
Marko Rupnik’s new monumental mosaic façade was inaugurated (!) at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil. Yesterday evening, the shrine unveiled the basilica’s 4,000-square-metre west façade. The project began in 2019 and continued after allegations of sexual and psychological abuse against Rupnik became public. The north façade was inaugurated in 2022, the south in 2024 and the east in 2025. Meanwhile, the sanctuary of Lourdes in France has already covered Rupnik’s mosaics, citing consideration for victims of abuse.

HOLLYWOOD’S STREETS WELCOME A DIFFERENT KIND OF STAR: JESUS IN THE EUCHARIST | SG News Hollywood is famous for celebrities and its iconic Walk of Fame. But on September 9, the streets of Los Angeles witnessed a very different kind of public gathering. Around 1,000 Catholics joined Archbishop José H. Gomez for a Eucharistic Procession through Hollywood, carrying the Blessed Sacrament past some of the entertainment capital’s most recognizable landmarks. Despite temperatures in the low 90s and unusually humid conditions, the faithful gathered at Blessed Sacrament Church for Eucharistic Adoration before taking their faith into the streets. Eighteen seminarians led the procession carrying candles and incense as bells rang, Catholics prayed the Rosary and Archbishop Gomez carried the Eucharistic Lord through Hollywood. The hour-long procession travelled from Sunset Boulevard past Hollywood High School before reaching Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue and continuing along the famous …Ibindi

Leo XIV appoints Archbishop: “The Church is called to disappear so that the Kingdom may grow.” Today, Pope Leo XIV appointed Father Mario León Dorado, 52 — a T-shirt guy and an adherent of the heretical Abu Dhabi program — as Coadjutor Archbishop of Rabat, Morocco. Born in Madrid, Dorado joined the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1996 and was ordained a priest in 2001. He has served as Apostolic Prefect of Western Sahara since 2013. “The Church is called to disappear” In September 2022, he wrote a reflection on his almost two decades of missionary work in an extraordinarily small Catholic community. His experience is that authentic love makes it possible to welcome the other without the 'need to change him'. Dorado draws his own conclusion: “The Church is called to disappear so that the Kingdom may grow.” He explained his ecclesiology with the explicit analogy to John the Baptist's words in John 3:30, "He must increase, but I must decrease." "Blessings" for homosexual couples …Ibindi

The sky broke open over the Peruvian Amazon, and a teenage girl in a sleeveless summer dress fell out of it still buckled into her seat. She was seventeen. Her name was Juliane Koepcke, and on December 24, 1971, she was supposed to be spending Christmas with her father at a remote research station in the rainforest. She and her mother, Maria, had stayed behind in Lima for one very ordinary reason: Juliane wanted to attend her high school graduation ceremony. That small teenage decision is what put them on LANSA Flight 508 on Christmas Eve. The hop from Lima to Pucallpa was supposed to take about an hour. Roughly twenty-five minutes in, the Lockheed Electra flew into a wall of black weather. Turbulence emptied the overhead bins. Christmas parcels rolled down the aisle. People began to scream. Then lightning struck the aircraft, the right wing tore away, and the plane came apart in the air. Juliane remembered her mother saying, very quietly, that this was the end of everything. And then …Ibindi
"Clear abuse of office" - Cardinal Müller criticises German bishops for their anti-AfD stance. After the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party won 44% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt, Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller accused German bishops of interfering in party politics in an interview with Kontrafunk.radio on 11 September. When asked about the [Berlin Archbishop Heiner Koch's] idea that the Church could do without Catholics who vote the 'wrong' way, Müller responded: "In my view, this is quite simply a clear abuse of office." The Church, he added, is "not a trade union". "When it comes to party-political preferences, bishops have no right to call into question the civil rights of Catholics." Müller also dismissed comparisons between the AfD and National Socialism as "far-fetched". Nazism was an ideology that was incompatible with Christianity. By contrast, the AfD has "a political programme that every individual citizen can judge for themselves". His message to Germany’s bishops: "Bishops …Ibindi
Cardinal Müller has once again spoken out strongly against bishops taking sides in party politics. He said that taking a clear stance against the AfD constitutes “a clear abuse of office.”
How is it that the German Catholic bishops are ready to denounce a political party as “extremist” for promoting restrictions on immigration, while the American bishops are reluctant to denounce Democrats for their extreme stand on abortion?
Without celibacy these abuses will continue. The Church policy of cover-up and coddling the abusers is wrong. Sexually active clergy should be defrocked.
Modern OCIA & Conversion: Mike Gormley on Ascension’s "Invited" & True Community "Your spouse’s faith might get you to the classroom door, but only your own faith will carry you across the threshold." Evangelist and author Mike "Gomer" Gormley joins CatholicTV to break down the reality of modern Catholic conversions. Why are young men and digital seekers suddenly flooding parish doors asking to become Catholic? Mike Gormley (Every Knee Shall Bow, Catching Foxes) steps onto the set of This Is the Day to unpack the state of adult faith formation (OCIA/RCIA) and introduce Ascension’s new program, Invited. Mike explores how the digital continent—podcasts, YouTube, and self-directed study—is leading people to the steps of the Church, but explains why information alone can never replace authentic relationship. In an age of algorithms and artificial intelligence, the Church’s secret strength remains unchanged: intentional accompaniment, personal discipleship, and lived community. Mike shares …Ibindi

Why Tech Oligarchs Are Willing to Risk Apocalypse nytimes.com/…/12/opinion/ai-tech-apocalypse-silic… Sept. 12, 2026 By Michelle Goldberg Opinion Columnist In a series of private speeches last year, Peter Thiel, the billionaire tech investor and Silicon Valley thought leader, said that the young activist Greta Thunberg represented the spirit of the Antichrist. It was more than just a hyperbolic slur. Thiel was expressing a Promethean theology, one that sanctifies technology and expansion. In Thiel’s worldview, the forces of dynamism must struggle against the evils of stagnation, represented by Thunberg’s leftist environmentalism. “In the 21st century, the Antichrist is a Luddite who wants to stop all science,” said Thiel. Thiel’s philosophical assumptions might sound bizarre to outsiders, but they appear to be widely shared among the tech elite. “A.I. and its capabilities represent something analogous to the Second Coming,” Jeremy Nixon, a founder of an A.I. hub called A.G.I. House, …Ibindi
